Previous Scientific/General Assembly Meetings

2023: International Veterinary Mycology Course, Iasi, Romania

The 5th ISHAM International Veterinary Mycology Course, was organized successfully, 16-19 October 2023, at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Iasi, Romania. The 4-day intensive training course included 28 lectures and 5 practical sessions. The sessions were interactive. A total number of 23 speakers from all around the globe also served as Faculty for the course.

28 Participants and 23 speakers from a diverse background of Veterinary Clinical Practitioners, Veterinary Dermatologists, MDs, Postdoctoral Researchers, PhD Students, Diagnostic Microbiologists (Medical and Veterinary) completed the course successfully and received the certificate.

2022: Workshop Veterinary Mycology& One-Health, Pre-ISHAM2022 Congress, Varanasi, India

A successful Pre-ISHAM 2022 Workshop was organized, ISHAM Veterinary Mycology & One Health Workshop, 17 and 18 September 2022 at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Lecturers and Participants were from India, Columbia, Italy, USA, Netherlands, Hong Kong, France, and Germany.

2022: General Assembly Meeting-Online

96 members of working group from 33 countries (58.4 % ISHAM Member, 41.6 % non-member) attended the meeting and discussed selection of new board members for 3-years period (2022-25), as listed below: Jacques Guillot (FR)• Vanessa Barrs (HK)• Ankita Kumari (IN)• Patrizia Danesi (IT)-Junior• Andrea Peano (IT)• Hans de Cock (NL)• Mihai Mares (RO)• Bridget Barker (USA)• Amir Seyedmousavi (USA) 


A new objective added to ISHAM-VMWG, as below:

- Advocacy(to enhance the global understanding): partnership with other societies and health care authorities to highlight impact of fungi on animal infections, Zoonoses, Public health)


A new aim also added to ISHAM-VMWG, as below:

- One-Health: to support all scientific aspects that deals on mycology and veterinary sciences and One-Health.

2020-2021: **COVID-19 pandemic**

Due to COVID-19 pandemic and in order to follow strict social distancing guidelines implemented by WHO, CDC and other health authorities, all the scheduled in- person events by VMWG including educational courses and working group general meeting were postponed.

2019: Scientific Session, ESVP/ECVCP 2019 Congress, Arnhem, Netherlands.

We organized a scientific session during joint congress of the European Society of Veterinary Pathology, the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and the European Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology, in Arnhem, The Netherlands, from 25th September to 28th September,2019.

2019: Scientific Session, ESCMID2019, Utrecht, Netherlands.

In collaboration with ESCMID Study Group for Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM), we organized a scientific session during 2nd ICOHAR 2019 (INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ONE HEALTH ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE) 16/04/2019 - 18/04/2019, Utrecht The Netherlands.

2018: International Veterinary Mycology Course, Pre-ISHAM2018, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The 3rd International Veterinary Mycology Course (Advanced  Veterinary Mycology Workshop)”,  was organized successfully 28-29 June 2018, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This two-day educational event counted 49 participants and speakers from 19 countries.

A scientific session was organized  during ISHAM 2018 Congress in Amsterdam (July 1st 2018): Session 3.4: Veterinary Mycology Working Group. 

2017: Joint Scientific Session, ESVP/ECVCP 2017 Congress, London, UK

A joint symposium between ISHAM-Veterinary Mycology Working Group and European Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology was organized successfully in Imperial College, South Kensington, London (UK) on September 7th 2017.

2016: Joint Symposium, ISHAM-Veterinary Mycology & -Medical Phycology Working Groups, Kanagawa, Japan

A joint symposium between ISHAM-Veterinary Mycology and Medical Phycology Working Groups under the umbrella of International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) was organized successfully, during annual Congress of Japanese Society of Veterinary Sciences, on 8th September 2016 at Nihon University College of Bioresource Sciences, Fujisawa, Japan. This 1 day scientific event counted 48 participants and 5 speakers from 7 countries. There was a huge opportunity for debate among participants and meeting’s faculty discussing emerging topics in Veterinary Mycology and Medical Phycology.

2015: International Veterinary Mycology Course, Turin, Italy

The 2nd International Veterinary Mycology Course under the umbrella of International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) was organized successfully, 26-30 October 2015 at the Department of Veterinary Sciences, Turin University, Turin, Italy. This 5 days educational event counted 16 participants and 18 speakers from 14 countries, which included 20 hours lectures and 12.5 hours laboratory practice.

2013: International Veterinary Mycology Course, Nijmegen, Netherlands

The 1st International Veterinary Mycology Course under the umbrella of International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) was organized successfully, 4-8 November 2013 in Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. This 5 days educational event counted 16 participants from 14 countries, and 17 speakers from 6 countries.

2012: First General Assembly Meeting, ISHAM2012 Congress, Berlin, Germany

 The first general meeting of ISHAM‐Veterinary Mycology Working Group (ISHAM‐VMWG) was held successfully on Wednesday 13th June 2012 during the 18th Congress of ISHAM in Berlin, Germany. There was a great opportunity to share our expertise, recent activities and also discuss future plans among members who attended this meeting. Attendees were scientists and veterinarians from all over the world.

During this meeting it was agreed that:

i. Membership is open to any with a scientific interest in fungi affecting animal species.

a) Interest in research into understanding a veterinary disease problem

b) Interest in development of animal models of human fungal disease

ii. A veterinary qualification was not a requirement for membership

2010: First announcement in ISHAM News

First announcement in ISHAM News (March 3rd, 2010), as below: 

 An initiative has been taken to start a Working Group on Veterinary Mycology under the auspices of ISHAM. This area covers very different practical and fundamental areas, such as development of vaccines in agriculture, mycoses in poultry, companion and wild animals, equines and other farm animals, mycotoxins, and research on fish and amphibian epidemics. Those who are interested to organize international networks for mutual support and exchange are requested to contact Seyed Mojtaba Seyed Mousavi Tasieh, mosavim@yahoo.com. Suggestions on priority topics are welcome.
